Fishing Beats

Parking, transport and access information are also detailed for each beat.

If you have any individual needs regarding parking, transport or access, etc (e.g. due to disability, mobility issues, etc), please feel free to contact the club and we will do our best to provide assistance and additional information.

Beat 1     Crookston Bridge – Hawkhead Bridge

  • Some on-street parking available in residential area ofHawkhead Estate or on Hawkhead Road.
  • Regular buses from Paisley town centre using Dykebar service.
  • Access to river along cycle track on left bank (south side of river).  Access to right bank will require some wading and/or climbing of walls/fences/gates and crossing rough ground

Beat 2     Hamills – Paisley Harbour

  • Pay & display parking at Watermill Hotel.
  • Easy walking distance from Paisley Town Centre.
  • Path leads down from side of hotel to with a few feet of river at Hamills.

Beat 3     Paisley Harbour – Inchinnan Bridge

  • Some on-street parking near Carlisle Quay (just off Love Street).
  • Easy walking distance from Paisley Town Centre.
  • Paved area around quayside area leading to river.

Beat 4     Inchinnan Bridge – Clyde

  • Some parking available in lay-by in Greenock Road north of Airport however due to location may be subject to scrutiny by airport police or at risk from thieves.
  • Regular bus service from Paisley to Erskine passes this area.
  • Access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground.

Beat 5     Inchinnan Bridge – Gryffe (Black Cart)

  • Some parking available in lay-by between TA base & M8 bridge however due to location may be subject to scrutiny by TA personnel or at risk from thieves.  If your vehicle is deemed to be a security risk and destroyed in a controlled explosion, don’t blame the club.
  • Hourly bus service from Paisley to Bridge of Weir via Houston Road passes this area.
  • Access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground.

Beat 6     Gryffe- Linwood Weir (Black cart)

  • Please note, this beat CAN NO LONGER BE FISHED unless in possession of a CASTLE ANGLING CLUB TICKET.

Beat 7     Black Cart – Selvieland Bridge (Gryffe)

  • Some on-street parking available on the north end of Moss Road close to the river.  Please note there is no access along the Moss Road from Linwood and must be accessed via the Houston Roador Auchens Road.
  • Hourly bus service from Paisley to Bridge of Weir via Houston Road passes this area.  Pedestrian access is also possible by walking up the Moss Road from Linwood although this involves a walk of at least one mile.
  • Most of the access to river is fairly easy however some may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground.

Beat 8     Selvieland Bridge – Birkenhead Ford

  • Transport, parking and access same as Beat 7

Beat 9     Birkenhead Ford – Sluice Gates

  • Transport, parking and access same as Beat 7

Beat 10   Sluice Gates – Houston Burn

  • Transport, parking and access same as Beat 7

Beat 11   Houston Burn – Stepping Stones

  • Some on-street parking at Ardgryffe Crescent or park at Moss Road (as for Beat 7)
  • Hourly bus service from Paisley to Bridge of Weir via Houston Road passes this area.  Also accessible by footpath from Crosslee in which case services to Kilmacolm & Bridge of Weir via Crosslee can be used.
  • Access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground although area around Ardgryffe Crescent to the Ardgryffe Ford has easy access.

Beat 12   Stepping Stones – Crosslee Bridge

  • Some on-street parking at Ardgryffe Crescent or in car park at Whirlie or Brierie Hill Road (Crosslee).
  • Hourly bus service from Paisley to Bridge of Weir via Houston Road passes close to this area.  Also accessible by footpath from Crosslee in which case services to Kilmacolm & Bridge of Weir via Crosslee can be used.
  • Access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground although area around Ardgryffe Crescent to the Ardgryffe Ford has easy access.

Beat 13   Crosslee Bridge – Caves Pool

  • Parking in car park at Whirlie or Brierie Hill Road (Crosslee).
  • Bus services to Kilmacolm & Bridge of Weir via Crosslee can be used.
  • Accessible by footpath (next to mill lade) from Crosslee. Some access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground although mill lade footpath is fairly easy going. Some wading may be required to access some pools or cross river.

Beat 14   Caves Pool – Barrs Damn Bridge of Weir

  • Some on-street parking at Mill of Gryffe Road (Bridge of Weir) or in car park at Whirlie or Brierie Hill Road (Crosslee).
  • Bus services to Bridge of Weir (via Linwood or Houston Road) or Kilmacolm & Bridge of Weir (via Crosslee) can be used.
  • Accessible by footpath (next to mill lade) from either Bridge of Weir or Crosslee. Some access to river may require climbing of fences/gates and crossing rough ground although mill lade footpath itself is fairly easy going. Some wading may be required to access some pools or cross river.

2.  Information on parking and access are provided as a “rough guide” and are not definitive.  Members need to exercise caution and use their own best judgement to ensure they are not causing an obstruction, breaking the law or generally causing a  nuisance.

It can also be dangerous so please ensure you have the right equipment, know what you’re doing and do not take unecessary risks (e.g. when wading, clambering over fences, etc)  The club cannot be held responsible for any damage, injury or loss so please use your own best judgement at all times.
