On a few occasions over the past few months, the club hut has been left in a bit of a mess. We’re not sure whether this has been members (hopefully not) but it’s equally concerning if non-members are getting access to the club hut.
This week however, the club hut was trashed. The tools cabinet was broken into and equipment taken, the pipe at the back of the stove was broken and part-burnt wood and ashes were scattered all over the floor.
There were no signs of forced entry so either the door had been left open, a non-member has the door entry code or, much more worryingly, the damage was caused by a member…
A lot of hard work (and club funds) have been used over the past couple of years to improve and maintain the club hut. Various work parties have taken place with members working hard to improve the club hut for the benefit of all members.
It’s essential that we make sure that this club asset is protected so please make sure…
When leaving the club hut, make sure the door is closed and locked. Turn the handle to make sure it’s secure.
If you see the door open but there’s nobody about, please just close the door rather than assuming someone will return to close it.
Don’t give the door entry code to anyone – even if you believe they are a club member.
If anyone doesn’t have the code, they can contact the club via the website or by popping into Hooked on Fishing in Renfrew.
If you notice any suspicious activity or any damage to the club hut it can be reported via the website, the bailiff’s contact numbers or to Hooked on Fishing.
If it’s urgent, please contact the police in the first instance.
Few fishing clubs in this area have a club hut and ours is a great haven for our members when the weather turns or when they want to have a seat and a warm-up by the fire. Lets make sure we protect this resource as it’s for all our benefit.
